I have been learning about programming in Python. It is a very powerful and easy to use language that is loaded standard with most Linux distributions (e.g. Ubuntu). It is also the primary scripting language used for ESRI development. I have been very surprised at how easy it is to create simple Graphical User Interfaces, manipulate data in databases, and write basic scripts to help with data management in my work.
